01 - Who We Are

Brightness Where There Was None

Nyota means “star” in Swahili. The name reflects the foundation’s aim to bring brightness into lives shadowed by poverty, illiteracy, illness and material need.

Staying true to its promise of helping hands in humanity, Nyota Foundation strives to help wherever possible - especially communities that are generally overlooked by society.

The foundation focuses on practical work in clean water, orphan welfare, health and education. Its published record includes more than 500 rural wells, education and vocational scholarships, school desks and renovations, reusable sanitary pads, nutrition support, Sakina Girls’ Home in Zanzibar and Abalfadhlil Abbas English Medium Nursery and Primary School in Tanga.

Nyota welcomes people who want to join this work, and its Dar es Salaam office is open to visitors and enquiries.
